Coal Clough Lane Community Centre

what three words ///shower.tent.press

Coal Clough Community Association was formed in 2004 to assist the residents in the Coal Clough area of Burnley. During its 18 year journey it has represented the residents on numerous occasions, negotiating with the County Council, Borough Council and its MP’s and councillors for improvements throughout the Coal Clough area.

In 2010 while based in Habergham Mill an over 55’s dinner club was started to provide the residents a chance to meet, chat and have a hot meal at a reasonable price, the emphasis being on company and friendship, this has become a big success along with the weekly raffle and bingo session.

In 2014 we moved to our new premises behind Fern Bank, although having a few jobs done here and there we are still providing the dinner club, a gentleman's morning , and have other groups using the facility, we are home for the Burnley Women's Institute (WI) and host the Gyn & Tonic Support Group every month. We also hold entertainment events during the year, these have been folk nights, Lancashire nights, bingo and well as others.

The committee have a vision for continual growth and offering more activities to the Coal Clough residents, if you need any information please CONTACT US.

7/3/22

Annual General Meeting.

On Saturday 5th March 2022 we held our AGM, during the meeting the new committee's were elected, Graham Roberts opted not to stand for re-election as Association chairman and sit on the general committee. Ian Pilkington was elected as Association chairman and resigned as Association Secretary to which Jane Parkinson was duly elected. John Black was re-elected as Association Treasurer.

3 General committee members were re-elected during the meeting, Graham Roberts, Sheila Sivieri and Malcolm Pickup were all elected onto the general committee.

Our thanks were also given to Graham Roberts for his years of dedication, guidance and countless hours he has invested in the association, Graham was one of the initial founders of the association and his cooking skills have made thousands of healthy meals for our dinner club visitors. We welcome Graham to the General committee, hopefully he will find time to have a few hours to himself and relax during the week.

We also thank our volunteers, without you the centre would not be able to function, it takes a special kind of person to volunteer, not everyone likes the idea of donating time, whether its community, charity, elderly or anything else, but I can honestly say we have the best volunteers we could ask for, your time, efforts and caring nature are appreciated by us all. Thank you, for all your time and dedication.

So now its time to continue to build on the foundations that Graham has laid down, continue serving our community and plan for a successful future.

Volunteers image
All our committee and staff are volunteers, some gladly give up 2 -3 hours per week others put in more hours as needed, but no matter how many hours are donated we do not get paid for our efforts.

Our committee are fully committed and dedicated to the ongoing success of the group and its development into the future, they are friendly, approachable and open to constructive criticism.

The volunteers for the dinner clubs are hard working, friendly and love interacting with the diners, undertaking tasks including setting tables, serving dinners, cleaning tables, washing up and looking after the cleanliness of the centre.

If anyone would like to volunteer a few hours per week or you feel you have something that may benefit the centre please CONTACT US or call into the centre on a Tuesday or Thursday between 10am and 3pm

Without volunteers our centre would now have been sold off by Lancashire County Council and would probably be more houses!! so to keep the centre opened and being used we need more volunteers, well actually "Friends of Coal Clough Community Centre"

We know some people are busy, family, work and other commitments take priority and we understand that. So, what we would like to do is start a group of volunteers who could spare a couple of hours here and there when necessary, could that be you? Well, we are looking to put a list of names together for people who may help us with

  • Kitchen Cleaning. As we are 5* rated from the environment agency we clean every time the kitchen has been used, but we also need to deep clean the kitchens every now and then.
  • General Cleaning. spending an hour cleaning the seats or carpets.
  • Simple Maintenance. can you paint? do a bit of gardening? maybe a bit of joinery?
  • Help with open days or maybe other events we are hoping to run to bring funds in.
  • Cooking or Serving? you may get the occasional free time to help prepare the meal or serve the clients?
  • Something else???? what could you do to help the centre survive?
If you think you could help in anyway no matter what it is, of how little time you could donate we would love to hear from you.

Just drop Ian the association Chairman an EMAIL and he will get back to you and have a chat.

We hope to hear from you soon.

Since the group was formed it has been totally self funding and financed. Although the building is owned by Lancashire County Council we look after the maintenance and everyday running ensuring that the centre is in kept in a good state of repair with a clean, warm and welcoming environment for our clients.

Funding is maintained by profits from the lunch clubs, raffles, events etc. We have also been given donations towards kitchen equipment, general funding and specific items from local businesses, councillors, local residents and visitors to the centre. As you can imagine all donations are greatly appreciated and put to good use within the centre.

Over the last year besides the general running costs we have targeted specific items to improve the safety and useability for our guests, these include a new raised toilet to assist our less abled guests, fit new security lights and improved the lighting outside the building, installed a new steel handrail down the slope to the main door and we purchased and sited a storage container in the car park as our storage space is minimal.

If you or your business would like to make a donation to the centre please drop us a quick email and we will be happy to discuss things with you.
